Local brand Bio-essence and Ginvera





It is really confuse for Malaysian whether Ginvera and Bio-Essence is a Singapore's brand or Malaysia's brand. Most Malaysian media refer the company is a local Malaysian brand and its factory in relocated from Old Klang Road to Kajang. However, based on the company history, the company was first incorporated in Singapore as L.D. Waxson (S) Pte Ltd to market and distribute Ginvera products in 1985. Only in 1988, Ginvera Marketing Enterprise Sdn Bhd was set up in Kuala Lumpur for marketing and distribution in Malaysia. Ginvera's website also stated Singapore's address as it contact. All product price are stated in Singapore Dollar rather than Ringgit Malaysia. The company have stated it willingness to list in either Singapore Stock Exchange or Bursa Malaysia.

Bio-Essence rank No 4 skincare product in Singapore and Malaysia

According to a market research report published by AC Nielson. Bio-Essence rank No 4 skincare product in Malaysia and Singapore, after Olay, Loreal and Neutrogene. Ginvera rank No 8. However, if only in face care category, Bio-Essence rank No 1. It is not easy for a local product to achieved such ranking. Despite rank no 4 in market share. It advertising and promotion (A&P)budget rank No 2. As the company spend most of it revenue on A&P. The company still incur loss even revenue growth 3 times in 2004 compare to 2003. The company hope to breakeven in 2005 financial year.

Face lift without surgery challenge

The revenue increase revenue 3 times in 2004 compare to 200 because of it "face lift without surgery" slogan. And the company included a ruler for measurement in it sample packages for customer to test it effectiveness of face lift in 10 minutes.

The company has in Jun 2005 conduct a "Face lift without surgery challenge" at Sunway Pyramid. 100 volunteers were recruit.

The worker will first measure the length of the face of those volunteers. 10 minutes after applied Bio-Essence face lifting cream. The worker measure the length of the face of those volunteers again. Amazing and surprise, The face of those 100 volunteers lifted between 0.2cm to 1.5 cm. The event successfully create a buzz and become a hot topic of discussion among ladies.

Warning letter from Multinational Corporation

The success resulted the company received a letter from a multinational corporation, which control numerous beauty and cosmetic brand, requesting the company to provide technical prove of it claim of face lift in 10 minutes. If fail, the company will make a complaint to advertising bureau and other government authorities for misleading consumer. The multinational stated that it 7,500 R&D personal proved that there is no one material i the world able to face lift in 10 minutes; And it research show that Bio-Essence product ingrediant comprise only herbal and chinese medicine.
Amazing traditional Chinese medicine
The company reply and challenge the company to measure it with ruler. However, refused to disclose it secret recipe. It is the Asian culture of traditional chinese medicine that difficult to explain and understand by the west.
The R&D team of Ginvera has develop a lot of material including but not limited to BMA, Bio Mineral Acid etc.
Company history and founder Tor Lam Huat
Ginvera founder Tor Lam Huat first venture into skincare product when he obtain a sole exclusive right to market a Taiwanese brand Dearland. With his marketing savvy method. Dearland become a hot product in Malaysia & Singapore. The product earn Mr Tor Lam Huat first million in his life.

However, Tor Lam Huat unable to smile more than 3 years. The Taiwanese company immediately withdraw the sole distribution right and set up it own marketing and promotion arm in Malaysia.

Tor Lam Huat bankrupted

Mr Tor invented a local brand Firland. With recession occur in mid 80. Firland sales unable to lifted. Tor high debt position lead him to bankruptcy.

After a fail venture. Tor Lam Huat never disappointed. He review the reason of his failure and continue with his R&D on new product. He borrow money from relative and able to come out a new product Ginvera within 2 years and successfully out from bankruptcy after that.

Ginvera flagship product marvel gel still popular until today.

In 2002, it launch Bio-Essence for ninche market, whereas Ginvera targeted middle and lower income group. In the same year, another skincare brand, Ginvera Green Tea, which targets at the mass market was launched in August in both Singapore and Malaysia.Ginvera's products were distributed in Thailand.

In 2003, Ginvera Marvel Gel was successfully launched in Japan .


In 2004, Aileen Tan, was appointed as the endorser for Bio-essence and Malaysian artiste, Syarifah Shahirah was appointed for the Malaysian market. Singaporean artiste, Belinda Lee, was appointed as the endorser for Ginvera Green Tea Spa range.


In 2005, upcoming singer, Yu Heng, was appointed as the endorser for the company popular line of Green Tea skin care products. International artiste, Fann Wong, was appointed to be the spokesperson for the company new range of Ginvera White Tea SPA shampoo launched in April 2005.

A new brand of body beauty and slimming products called Celebrities' Choice was introduced into the Singaporean market in June 2005.

A new range of Men's beauty products, Nugeno was also successfully introduced into the Singaporean market in August 2005. Popular local artiste Pierre Png was appointed as the endorser for this range of products.

Thank you for your comment. However, I don't really understand your question. If a product have distribution network in China and Indonesia, then I cannot classified it as still in its infancy. Or you want me to quote two different brand to you?

FYI, Dr. Tor Lam Huat BOUGHT his degree with money, and his Marvel Gel formula was stolen through an industrial espionage from another local brand called "Wonder Gel" back in the 80s. You can ask anyone in their 50s and they will mostly be confused between the two. He even tried doing the same thign to a coffee brand in Malaysia. And as for DearLand, he made that Taiwan boss bankrupt for NOTHING. BTW, Dr. Tor doesn't formulate his own products, he's a thief and a cheapskate. If he doesn't steal from anyone, he just gets plain old recipes from raw material suppliers. The company who formulated the ORIGINAL Wonder Gel (exfoliating gel) gave out 10,000 flyers back in the 80s trying to spread the truth out, and Dr. Tor didn't even bother to sue them. WHY? Because he knew it was true! First of all when the MArvel Gel first came out, he claimed that it was a German formula. Then when he saw the success of Ginvera Marvel Gel, he started claiming that he formulated it. What a liar!

Yes, this Tor Lan huat is a thief & big liar.

& BTW, Dearland S’pore (owned by tor lan huat) became bankrupt not ‘cause the Taiwanese producer was greedy & took back the distributorship.

It was tor lan huat who became greedy after seeing the success of Dearland. He unscrupulously convinced the Taiwanese to reveal to him where to get raw materials, machineries and manufacturing processes to produce Dearland in Indonesia as a joint venture, telling the Taiwanese that Indonesia has a few hundred times bigger market than S’pore.

After he obtained all the information, he setup his own backyard factory at Defu Lane and made Fearland soap cleansers, and went around telling the dealers that Fearland is the sister company of Dearland, &would be replacing Dearland.

But because of his inexperience, Fearland products separated into water & oil, & all dealers returned the products.

Some dealers informed the Taiwanese, who gave him a surprise visit and caught him red handed. The Taiwanese then cancelled his sole-distributoship agreement for Dearland.

Since his Fearland project failed, he begged the Taiwanese to let him market Dearland again.

Of course the Taiwanese refused, & since Dearland S’pore that he owned has no more Dearland products to market, & his own Fearland products also failed, Dearland S’pore foldedup, after all it is Dearland brand that will be affected, and not him. He owed media agencies lots of money.

He then absconded with some money to set up his ginvera.

He's only good in competing in price undercutting, & nothing else. So, his cheap shampoos managed to take off with big spending in A+P. How was he so confident in spending big A+P money like those MNCs?

He did it again by his unscrupulous nature.

He set up ginvera marketing to market products & receive sales proceeds. And he set up another separate company LD Waxson Pte Ltd just for the purpose of signing big A+P contracts with the media agencies, so in case LD Waxson couldn't pay and foldup, his ginvera marketing will still be unscathed, and he gets to keep all the sales proceeds.

Afterall, if LD Waxson goes bust, the Taiwanese reputation would be greatly affected again, and not his.

Why so?

Because the name LD Waxson is identical to another LD Waxson incorporated in the U.S.A. by the Taiwanese.

Obviously, it was done on purpose by this wicked and greedy pig tor lan huat.

So, he got rich and successful all by deceit, lies and unscrupulous underhands, & after being bankrupted a few times, not once!

I also heard that he stole the WOndergel formula from another S’pore company to make his marvelgel and promoted in ways to purposely confuse the consumers. One of my friends who is a retailer told me that this tor lan huat even offered him free liquors & asked him to place his marvelgel on the display shelves of Wondergel so that the consumers will buy his marvelgel mistakenly for Wondergel. His marvelgel packaging also looked similar to Wondergel those days.

All his A+P was also done to confuse the consumers.

Better stay away from this thief and liar.

The measurement of the faces with rulers by his employees are also scams. They loosen the ruler to give a higher measurement before treatment, then tighten the measurement after treatment to show a smaller measurement, and claimed that the face has lifted in 10 mins!!!

What a joke.

He paid $20K for his degree, and never studied. If he claimed he is a qualified researcher, ask him which Uni he did his doctorate and who were his supervisors and what was his research topic (his thesis), and watch his expression.

It is people like him who has shallow knowledge that dares to lie & cheat in such a scale as if he is an expert in skin care.

Heard that now his children are roped in to continue with his deceitful business style. Real unrepentant crooks that shamed Singapore.

Tq i get a lot of information about Ginvera company at your blog. Btw im doing a research about Ginvera company for one of my subject in college. im really want to know what is Ginvera meaning and what is the real Ginvera company logo color? Hope anyone can help me to answer my question ..
